Kinetic Technologies™ Introduces 5A eFuse for Reliable 5V and 12V Power-Rail Protection

Adding to their market leading protection product portfolio, KTS1630 combines low on-resistance, programmable current limiting and fast fault protection in a compact 3mm × 3mm package

San Jose, Calif. – August 4, 2026 – Kinetic Technologies, a Cyient Semiconductors company and a leader in high-performance analog and mixed-signal semiconductor solutions, today announced the KTS1630 device. This is a highly integrated 5A eFuse designed to improve the safety, reliability and power efficiency of consumer and industrial systems operating from 5V and 12V power rails Modern electronic systems require increasingly robust protection as power density rises and designs become smaller. The KTS1630 helps protect sensitive downstream components from excessive current, short circuits, thermal events and uncontrolled inrush current while minimizing voltage loss and external component count. Its integrated 31mΩ typical power MOSFET supports efficient high-current operation across a wide 4.5V to 18V input range.

“Designers need power-protection solutions that respond quickly to faults without adding unnecessary complexity, power loss or board area. The KTS1630 combines precise, programmable protection with low resistance and flexible fault-response options, helping customers build safer and more reliable products using fewer external components.”

– Erik Ogren, Senior Director of Marketing at Kinetic Technologies

The device’s adjustable 1A to 5A current limit enables designers to optimize protection for specific system loads rather than relying on a fixed protection threshold. A programmable output slew rate controls inrush current during startup, helping prevent input supply droop, connector stress and unintended system resets when large capacitive loads are connected.

For sudden overload and short-circuit events, the KTS1630 provides a fast 100ns typical overcurrent response, helping isolate faults before they can damage downstream circuitry. Integrated overtemperature protection provides an additional level of system protection during abnormal operating conditions.

The KTS1630 also includes a dedicated control output for an external reverse-blocking MOSFET. This capability prevents unwanted reverse current flow when the input supply is removed or when the output voltage exceeds the input, making the device well suited for systems with multiple power sources, backup supplies or sensitive shared power rails.

Two fault-response versions give designers flexibility based on application requirements. The KTS1630A automatically attempts to restart after a fault condition has cleared, while the KTS1630B remains latched off until the device is reset. This allows customers to select either automatic system recovery or controlled fault servicing without redesigning the protection architecture.

Kinetic Technologies Announces Transient Voltage Suppression (TVS) Flat-Clamp Integrated Circuits for Port Protection Against High Voltage Surge and ESD Events

KTS1287: Up to ±250V Surge Protection for 20V SPR VBUS Components,
KTS1289: Up to ±200V Surge Protection for 28V EPR VBUS Components,
both Providing Top-Notch ESD Protection Performance at +30kV
Contact & Air-Gap All in a Tiny WLCSP 1.66 x 1.56mm Package

San Jose, Calif. – November 24, 2025 – Power management leader, Kinetic Technologies, is expanding its USB Protection portfolio with the introduction of its KTS1287 and KTS1289 flat-clamp transient voltage suppressors (TVS) for ESD and surge events. These monolithic ICs include an active-clamp control circuit, a gate-driver, and a power MOSFET to provide higher performance in a smaller footprint compared to typical TVS diodes. The KTS1287 and KTS1289 will clamp both positive and negative ESD and surge events per IEC standards.

“Compared to traditional TVS diodes, the flat-clamp TVS device provides tight voltage regulation which lowers clamping voltage during a surge event. This allows designers to confidently select system components with a lower voltage tolerance, further lowering system costs and complexity without sacrificing robustness.” – Frank Mao, Senior Director of Marketing at Kinetic Technologies

The KTS1287 addresses surge protection for 20V standard power range (SPR) VBUS components while the KTS1289 is robustly designed to protect 28V extended power range (EPR) VBUS components from Electrical Overstress (EOS) damage in different application scenarios. These devices also provide the highest ESD protection performance in the industry. The active control circuit of the KTS1287/KTS1289 clamps the voltage nearly flat during ESD/Surge events while high current is shunted to ground through the integrated power MOSFET. The KTA1170 is a dual ideal-diode bridge designed to rectify independent DC input channels, separately or together, into a single output. This is especially required for IEEE 802.3bt powered devices, where power is delivered through all 4 pairs of the cable. Also, with a forward voltage drop of 0.25V compared to 0.7V for discrete diodes, designers can instantly save up to 1W for Class 8 power applications while significantly reducing system size.

Geethakrishnan Narasimhan, Director of Product Marketing at Kinetic Technologies, says, “With the introduction of KTA1170, Kinetic is offering a complete portfolio of products to design any PoE PD application across IEEE 802.3af, at and bt power standards. The dual active bridge solution for voltage rectification not only decreases the PCB footprint by 87% and simplifies the BOM but also improves the PD power conversion efficiency by up to 2%. Customers can now design applications for PoE PD that require higher power at efficiencies up to 92% and with smaller form factors, effectively expanding the limits of PoE systems.”

Kinetic Technologies Introduces Novel OptiComp™ Frequency Control Method 2.4MHz, 3A Buck-Switching Regulator

KTB8400: Step-Down Regulator Features Fast Transient Response and Lowest Variation in Switching Frequency for Noise Sensitive Applications

San Jose, Calif. – March 10, 2025 – Power management leader, Kinetic Technologies, is expanding its DC-DC Conversion portfolio with the introduction of KTB8400 OptiCompTM buck switching regulator. OptiComp is a unique architecture that combines the best attributes of the leading DC-DC control methods into a single design. It features fast transient response, ultra-low variation switching frequency across the load range, high efficiency and integrated compensation. KTB8400 is ideal for a variety of applications including CPU/GPU core, DSP, DDR memory, VIO, and sensor/analog power.

OptiComp’s highly controlled switching frequency avoids the common problems with popular architectures wherein light-load operation introduces unwanted EMI and increased output voltage ripple. KTB8400 is I2C programmable for output voltages in the 0.6V to 3.345V range. It features soft-start and DVS with multiple programmable ramp rates as well as programmable forced-PWM and auto-skip light load modes. Protection features include soft-start, over-current, short-circuit, under/over VIN, and thermal shutdown.

“OptiComp is a significant new addition to the DC-DC industry” says Jan Nilsson, Chief Technical Officer at Kinetic Technologies, “It brings the best advantages of Voltage Mode, Current Mode and Constant On-Time architectures into a single high-performance IC, providing ultra-fast transient response, ultra-low variation in switching frequency without sacrificing small size, high efficiency and protection features. Up until now, it was commonplace in the industry where OEM designers were forced to prioritize transient response, fixed frequency or high efficiency, and then select the control method which provided the key specification while sacrificing the others. OptiComp is a game changer, using a patented PLL control scheme to combine all the strengths together in a single design.”

Key applications for the KTB8400 include Industrial Electronics, Sensors, Mobile Electronics, IoT Devices, Drones, Gaming Consoles and Accessories.
